Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

When Mdm Teo first came to Oriental Remedies, she was suffering from Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

GERD is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter, which is the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. In TCM terms, GERD is caused by the imbalances in the liver and stomach, resulting in rebellious Qi to flow upwards and in turn, manifests as a backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus. This backwash (acid reflux) can irritate the lining of the esophagus, causing discomfort, heartburn and acid indigestion.

Before Mdm Teo came down to our clinic, she experienced a strong, sour sensation at the back of her throat whenever she ate. In addition to this issue, she also experienced frequent hot flushes in her body due to menopause. Her body constantly felt very warm, even in an air-conditioned room. It was to the extent that it affected her daily sleep as she would wake up perspiring in the middle of the night.

After a consultation with our head physician Dr Leong, she was prescribed with herbal medication to restore the balance of Yin and Yang in her body, reduce the flow of rebellious Qi and improve her digestive functions. A few sessions later, her condition had significantly improved and she no longer has these issues anymore, even after stopping her medication. Mdm Teo was very satisfied with the results and finally managed to get a good night’s rest!
