FAR-INFRARED THERAPY

WHAT IS FIR?

Far Infrared Therapy (FIR) is a non-invasive treatment that uses invisible waves of energy, known as far infrared rays, to gently warm the body from within. These rays penetrate up to 2–3 cm beneath the skin, stimulating circulation, supporting detoxification, and revitalising your cells without overheating or damaging the skin.

Often described as a modern extension of ancient thermal therapies, FIR harnesses the healing effects of natural sunlight without the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Instead of warming the air around you, FIR directly targets deeper tissue layers. This helps relieve muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and support the body’s natural repair processes.

FIR is safe, comfortable, and suitable for most individuals. Sessions are typically experienced while lying on a FIR mat embedded with jade and tourmaline, which help emit the therapeutic infrared heat.

HOW IT HELPS

FIR increases arterial and peripheral blood flow by promoting the dilation of blood vessels—without raising blood pressure. This enhanced circulation is essential for supporting healthy organ and tissue function. It also contributes to better cardiovascular performance by encouraging healthy heart activity and improving the condition of blood vessel linings.[1]

The gentle heat relaxes muscles and nerves, helping to reduce stiffness, soreness, and spasms. It also alleviates pain linked to chronic aches, injuries, or tension in the back, shoulders, and neck.[2]

FIR helps expand clogged capillaries, initiating the breakdown of hidden toxins and promoting more efficient circulation. This process supports the removal of waste substances such as fats, heavy metals, uric acid, and excess sodium—many of which contribute to fatigue, inflammation, and metabolic strain.[3] Improved lymphatic flow further enhances the body’s ability to detox and maintain internal balance.

By stimulating collagen production and encouraging tissue repair, FIR supports skin recovery.[4] It promotes cell regeneration, which is essential for healing wounds, scars, burns, and skin issues like acne or breakouts. With its antioxidative effects, FIR may also improve skin resilience and help soften signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles.

Comforting and functional, regular FIR sessions can boost immune function by encouraging the production of white blood cells and T-cells—key defenders in your body’s natural immune response. Incorporating FIR into your wellness routine reinforces your body’s ability to ward off illness.[5]

FIR is increasingly used as a complementary therapy in cancer care, primarily for enhancing the patient’s quality of life and supporting the body’s natural defences.

It is most commonly used to manage side effects of conventional cancer treatments. Patients frequently experience pain, nausea, and overwhelming fatigue; FIR can help alleviate these symptoms, providing much-needed comfort.

Beyond comfort, FIR utilises the principle of hyperthermia. It generates gentle, localised heat that can make cancer cells more susceptible to traditional therapies or, in laboratory studies, even inhibit their growth. This targeted warming effect is a focus of ongoing research into its direct anti-cancer potential. FIR also offers immune support. Conventional treatments often compromise the immune system, which is why immune support is essential for cancer patients.[6]

FAQ

Yes. FIR therapy is non-invasive, gentle, and suitable for most people. It uses pure infrared heat without harmful UV rays, making it a safe option for regular wellness support.

Unlike traditional saunas that heat the air around you, FIR gently heats your body directly. This allows for deep tissue penetration at lower temperatures, making it more comfortable and accessible—especially for people sensitive to heat.

Whether you’re seeking supportive care for a specific health condition or simply looking to enhance your overall wellness, FIR therapy offers profound benefits for all.

It’s ideal for anyone seeking relief from the daily grind – be it aches, persistent fatigue, inflammation, or water retention. For athletes, it aids in post-workout recovery, while for individuals living with chronic conditions, it delivers supportive relief. Ultimately, if you’re on a journey towards holistic wellness, seeking enhanced detoxification, or simply aiming for better overall health, FIR therapy is a good addition to your routine.

For optimal results, FIR therapy is most effective when incorporated into a consistent routine, typically 2-3 times per week for clinic sessions. However, to truly maximise the benefits and for ongoing maintenance, daily FIR therapy at home is ideal.* It is best to consult our physicians for personalised recommendations and a treatment plan based on your health goals and needs.

*We offer a range of FIR mats for convenient home use. Please contact us at +65 8087 0486 or speak to our clinic consultants if you’re interested in integrating this powerful therapy into your daily wellness regimen.

During a FIR therapy session, you can expect to feel a comforting warmth that gently spreads through your body. It’s an incredibly relaxing experience, with many describing it as a soothing sensation that melts away tension, leaving them feeling refreshed and lighter upon completion.

No downtime is needed. You may feel relaxed or slightly flushed from the warming effects, but you can return to your normal activities right after your session.
